Fazenda Santa Lucia is rooted in the Pereira family, whose influence extends well beyond their own land in Carmo de Minas. At the center are José Isidro Pereira and Nazareth Dias Pereira, early advocates for quality-focused production in a region historically oriented toward volume. Their approach helped shape both the farm and the broader direction of Mantiqueira de Minas.
In the 1970s, their daughter Glycia Pereira Carneiro and her husband Hélcio Carneiro Pinto took over day-to-day operations. Under their stewardship, Santa Lucia evolved alongside the specialty coffee movement, with a growing emphasis on experimentation, processing, and consistency.
Hélcio also played a key role in the wider community, co-founding Aprocam, a collective that brought producers together to share knowledge, improve agricultural practices, and elevate regional quality standards. This collaborative approach contributed to Mantiqueira de Minas gaining recognition as one of Brazil’s leading specialty coffee regions.
Today, Fazenda Santa Lucia remains a multi-generational operation. The Pereira family continues to balance tradition with ongoing refinement, maintaining a long-standing commitment to both quality and the sustainability of their land and community.
