For more than 100 years, the Hartmann family have worked the land in harmony with nature, becoming one of the most respected names in Panamanian coffee. It all began with Alois Hartmann, who settled in Panama in 1912. His son, Ratibor, established Finca Hartmann on 100 hectares of virgin rainforest inherited from his father. Today, the farm is shared by Ratibor's five children (Ratibor, Allan, Alexander, Kelly, and Aliss) and their families.
The rainforest has been preserved, with coffee grown beneath the shade of the native canopy, and the family continues to plant native trees to keep the ecosystem healthy. Around 300 bird species have been recorded on the land, and it's no surprise that the farm carries Bird Friendly certification.
Each of the Hartmann siblings runs their own farms and projects, but Finca Hartmann is where the whole family comes together to carry on the legacy their father and grandfather started.
We've been buying the Hartmanns' Natural Caturra for many years now, and it remains one of our most anticipated Panama coffees each season. This year's lot is no exception: loud, expressive, and packed full of fruit.
